Fall Into Romance Blog Hop

Blog Hop Button.3Happy Friday everyone and welcome to the Fall into Romance Blog Hop. I’m giving away a free copy of either Hearts in Barbed Wire or  Entanglements to two folks who leave a comment,  so be sure to enter.

A hundred years ago, The Great War, or World War 1 started. Since I am a history buff, I wanted to know more about the time period. Since I’m an author, learning more about the time period gave me story ideas;-)

I’m currently working on a novella in the series set during Halloween. Perfect for a Fall into Romance Blog Hop, don’t you think? While the first two books in the series take place not long after the Central Powers (Germany and her allies) invade Belgium, this story takes place on the fictional island of Hope’s Pointe, Michigan, USA.

Why Michigan when the US didn’t enter the war on the side of the allies until 1917? You see my grandmother and great-grandmother are of German stock and I wanted to tell something of their experiences during this time as well as learn why both rarely mentioned their German heritage.

As fate, God, and the story-fairy would have it, my aunt came to visit and told an interesting story about my grandparents. It seems they had broken up because of family plans for my grandfather but had met again at a dance and decided to marry despite objections. They were married over sixty years before my grandfather died.

Now that’s an inspiration for romance.

  2. Kathy Heare Watts says:

My Dad went into the military at 16 and was sent to Germany in 1952 for almost 3 years. When he came home, someone introduced him to my mother. Well she was dating another guy, but my father became smitten with her immediately. He would drive 30 miles and visit with my maternal grandmother and leave before my mother got home from school and Grandma said “He licked the cow to get the calf” Well, Mom’s beau was now out of the picture and it was time for her senior prom and she sent word asking Dad if he would like to go with her, and he did. She realized she had feelings for him that night. My parents just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on 9/15. He is 80 and she is 76 and has dementia.
As a genealogist I love the stories I have about my parents, and even both sets of grandparents. Redrabbitt@aol.com

my moms dad fought in WW2 and was married to my grandma during the war. my mom was born a year before the war ended because my granddad’s biggest fear was that my grandma would be all alone in the world if they didn’t have a child together and he wanted my grandmum to have someone else in her life besides him just in case he was killed

  7. I think that even though my husband and I have been married 23 years ( next week Sept 28), that our story is romantic. Our mothers worked together and were talking about their kids(us) and we were both headed to Monterey, CA for a military assignment ( in different services even). They wanted us to meet and we did. Well we hit it off and continued our romance in Monterey, and Carmel , CA. We were married several months later by the sea! We both just knew it would be a good match! I do love him truely!

  8. Congrats to D’Ann and bn100. You’ve each won your choice of either Hearts in Barbed Wire or Entanglements. Please look for my email with further details.
