The Music

I drive an old truck. A very old truck with an old radio. When the hubbinator and I purchased the truck, we had a new radio installed.

And the radio never worked right. We took it back three times to the installer before they said we’d have to contact the manufacturer for service. Right.

So for 15 years, I’ve had to perform mystical acrobatics while trying to change the station or adjust the volume.

If there was a particular song I hated on the station, forget about it. The radio would refuse to respond.

As for CDs, removing a CD was a test in skill, timing, and speed. You see it would spit out the CD then suck it in, eject it halfway then change its mind.

When you were lucky enough to be given the option of changing the station, you had to press the face plate just right and hoped that the buttons worked. Usually, t his involved making certain the faceplate was illuminated while driving.

Fun times.

But even fun times have to end. So I took the truck down to an install place and purchased a new radio, speakers (I blew out the old ones-yes, my kids told me to turn down the music), and some insulation behind the speakers so the music remained only for me:D Although I drive with my windows down and the radio up, so maybe not.

The installers helped me pair my phone with the system but on the way home the connection was lost. So not cool. The hubbinator and I had visions of the original POS installed. Thankfully, I tried again and the pairing took.

And all last week, I could listen to my playlists or the radio and change the station/volume at will.

Heaven. Pure heaven.

Until next time.
