Obviously blind

I joined several card making kit clubs to learn new skills to make cards. I love learning new things. Even when those things make me feel like an idiot.

Last weekend, I was showing my mother some of my dragon horde, er, the kits I receive and lamented that one just sent 12 x 12 sheets of paper and other embellishments but no actual cards.

Now, this makes sense as you can use the papers to make scrapbooks, but I wanted a card kit, not a page kit. Still the kit came with instructions on how to make a card and a page, and as I explained it becomes easier to see possibilities once you have a foundation from options.

After she’d left, I poked around on the internet and found a lady who was showing card hacks with the kit that I had bought. Oddly enough, she was making cards by cutting up the 12 x 12 inch paper (card stock as it is called).

doh! Well, I didn’t make some cards and I learned a lot, including I can make my own cards. Go figure.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Something Weird

Friday morning we woke up at the usual time–0330. Sure, it was Friday and we were exhausted from the week, but when I went outside the early morning air just felt odd. Very odd. Heavy and hushed and like something was coming.

I mentioned it to the hubbinator who isn’t a morning person and just grunted as he made his breakfast.

Then we walked outside. He perked up a little bit. Yeah, it’s odd. Very odd.

We kissed goodbye and he drove away.

He figured out about a mile or two down the road why everything felt so odd–it sprinkled.

Like real water coming from the sky. It was enough to glue the dust to our windshields but didn’t touch the ground. Still it was rain.

Phoenix and Arizona are in their 21st year of drought. This year we are about 42% of our annual rainfall, which is usually 7 inches. The main reservoir feeding Central Arizona has a bathtub ring that can be seen from space. It has been at least 2 months since we had any rain. If I had known there was the possibility of getting rained on, I would have stood outside in the dark and waited.

I asked the hubbinator if he thought we’d see rain soon. Yeah, when we move out of the state.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Cats, cats, cats, cats

Our cats are amazing creatures. They are great at hiding until you mention treats. Behold, the morning feeding frenzy.

Gusgus isn’t being punished. He’s on a special diet, with special treats.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Maker Monday

I received a few kits in the mail this weekend. The first was to make cards and the second was for a necklace and earrings.

I like how the turned out. How did you spend your weekend?

Mumbler

There comes a time when you start talking to yourself. Not, as the meme goes, because you need an expert opinion, but because it is sometimes better to talk things through then to think them through.

The hubbinator talks to himself quite a bit. I usually end up hearing part of an intriguing conversation–where are you getting 10 grand from? Who died?

His conversations are sometimes better than the ones in my head.

But I digress.

Yesterday, the hubbinator overheard me say call 9-1-1. Naturally, he jumped up and rushed down the hall, ready to do battle. Who needs 9-1-1?

Apparently, he had heard the interesting bit that I had spoken. When I explained that my hero had just left her burning house but the villain had caught her (the Villian had said to the neighbor to call emergency services while he planned to suffocate her), the hubbinator was not impressed.

At least, I wasn’t talking to myself, but dictating a scene into my iPhone.

Until next time, stay healthy.

One of those people

I think I have a problem. A big problem. I think that I am feeding my creative side but not nurturing it.

You see, I am buying the things to be creative, but I am not always doing the creative things.

So the things are accumulating, but the projects are not being finished or started.

Given that the possibilities are endless, but that the finished project is set, I can see where the first is far more appealing than the end.

But the end brings its own satisfaction, too.

I’ve encountered a lot of folks who want to write a book. I spent years in their company in writers groups–those people who dream of being a writer but never want to put in the work of writing. These are also the kind who watch how-to videos but never do the things they watch.

I never wanted to be one of those people.

And yet, here I am, dwelling in possibilities. Maybe I will just rest here until moving to the other side.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Guilty Pleasures

Now that the weather is warming up, it is time for us Phoenicians to stay inside. Below are some of the shows we will be watching while the weather outside is frightful:

House Hunters-Pretty much any of its iterations, but currently Caribbean and Renovation spin offs.

Ghost Adventures—because we find it funny as Zac tries to one up Aaron and the gang.

The Irregulars—a big fan of anything Sherlock Holmes, I’m still unsure if I enjoy this take but I do love the characters and its paranormal.

Good Bones—Love the pooh toilets.

Property Brothers Forever Home—I like the Brothers and it is nice to see something other than white kitchens.

Golden Girls—rewatching the series because it is funny

Missing—sometimes sad and confusing, but every once in a while there is a good ending.

Doctor Who—From 10 onward then we’ll go back and start at the real beginning when they become available to the regular public.

Balthazar—French crime show with a coroner and a police detective.

Brokenwood Mysteries—mysteries set in New Zealand

So what is on your watch list?
