The Sound of Silence

So I did a weird thing. I asked my story fairy to take a vacation while I focused on the marketing side of the author business.

And she did it.

I have to say it was the weirdest couple of weeks. All I could think about was is this what normal people hear in their heads? It was unsettling and surreal. Not a world that I knew, or one that I want to become accustomed to.

My folks thought I was crazy. What if the story fairy didn’t return? What would I do then?

That nearly stopped my heart, but then I heard a faint mumble in the background. White noise. Static through the speakers. I’m pretty sure she was drunk, probably on a beach, hooking up with someone else’s story fairy-no doubt a buff guy wearing only a leaf over his more interesting bits.

I hope she enjoyed her vacation. I don’t think we’ll be parting ways again. She’s back, crawling around under my skin, waiting to take control of my fingers to type out the next Hadean story. It’s good to be back to myself.
