In a World of Cans

In the search for recipes to try this month, I had an odd thought.

Why not look for recipes that don’t include preprocessed food? In other words, no canned items. Not as easy as imagined. it only took a few books before I realized I needed a better definition of canned items.

I decided that canned tomatoes, beans, broth and other whole food could be used but not soups. That was much easier to find interesting and tempting dishes.

So now, the fun begins.

Of course, my first new recipe is butternut squash soup. With no canned ingredients, except the bullion cubes for which I substituted canned broth. I hope it tastes great. I think it is the perfect way to welcome the cool (90F) weather.

Until next time, stay healthy.
