High on a hill in Washington Park near downtown Portland stands the Pittock Mansion. The once private dwelling of the family who started the Oregonian newspaper and worked to help make Portland a city is now a state park.
The views and gardens are spectacular:
Even the caretaker’s home is impressive:
And while others marveled at the modern conveniences of indoor plumbing and a telephone, I always gravitate toward the kitchen and pantries.

Of course it is always nice to know someone had to clean the place.
It really is a beautiful house.
