RIP

I thought I would have my truck forever. Turned out forever was only 22 years.

Last week, I was driving around doing errands and on my way home I got a dashboard error message concerning the battery.

Now, the hubbinator had replaced the battery a couple of weeks ago and was worried he hadn’t tightened the everything. But then when I arrived home and shifted the truck in park, the engine made an odd clunking sound. Naturally, I asked him to look and make sure everything was tightened down when he got home from work.

He said he didn’t think that was the problem but decided to check it out. He borrowed my keys, popped the hood and started the engine. It made an odd sound then he couldn’t shut off the ignition or remove the key. I tried turning the engine off, even shifting it in and out of gear and it even made that horrible clunking noise.

I went in the house to grab my phone and make an appointment at the repair shop when the hubbinator started yelling. Seems there was a wee flame and a large amount of smoke. By the time I got out there, he had disconnected one side of the battery and the engine died. It didn’t smell like chicken, more like an electrical fire.

Saying goodbye to my truck was a lot harder than I thought. But I had had it nearly as long as I’ve had my youngest child and there were so many memories packed inside. The truck has been donated to Kars for Kids.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Oh, the carnage

The puppy decided to show me. I woke up to the slaughter—squeaker, stuffing and empty husks everywhere.

Guess, she showed me.

Until next time, stay healthy.

There is no one more attentive than a dog waiting for her walk.

On Repeat

I don’t know about you but recently I’ve had a song stuck in my head. One song for weeks at a time.

Being an obsessive kind of person, I looked up the song and artist on YouTube and played the song. Again and again. And again.

I thought that would help. Instead, I know have all three verses and the chorus. So I downloaded the song and put it on my iPad.

It’s been going on all summer.

I’ve rotated between 3 songs—Different Drummer by Linda Ronstadt, Fire and Rain by James Taylor, and Brilliant Disguise by Bruce Springsteen.

The dog is getting sick of me singing them when I walk her in the morning.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Running out of Time

I cleaned out a shelf in my pantry the other day and nearly gave myself a heart attack. I found a big can of pumpkin nearing its expiration date.

That wouldn’t do. Not even a little.

Thankfully, it’s nearly baking season here in Phoenix. I know what some of you are thinking—why would there be a baking season?

The reason is simple—it’s wicked hot outside. I mean when the morning lows are in the high 80s and low 90s, the last thing most folks want to do it work up a sweat opening the oven door. Heck, we can do that just by opening up the front door and stepping outside.

Which means the season for baking is when the highs may be in the low 100s but the lows are high 70s. Translation sometime October or, if we’re lucky, late September.

So unless, I start cooking with a solar cooker, I’m going to be pushing that expiration date and praying that pumpkin can doesn’t swell.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Journaling

I’ve been seeing a lot of journaling videos come across my YouTube feed. I’ve even watched a few.

There’s been art journals, where you create mini works of art. Frankly, these stress me out. My creativity doesn’t work that way.

There are scrapbook journals which tend to have way to many flaps and pockets which means constantly removing them from their protective sheets to see everything.

Then there are the writing journals. You know, with prompt you scribble some random thoughts.

All I can think is that I would see them title Exhibit A.

Which leaves me in a bit of a dilemma—I’d like to make one but I don’t want to use it. Which is a little crazy kinda like my life. Ah, well, c’est la vie.

Until next time stay healthy.
