But wait there’s more

In an effort to help me promote my books, the hubbinator is taking an online course in marketing. He was happily working his way through the modules and wondering why it always took me so long to finish the course.

Then he discovered that he’d only hit the intro to each section and that there were 5 other modules underneath.

Not everything is as simple as it appears. There are hidden depths to more than just icebergs. And while sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, not everyone smokes.

Until next time.

Burns Pretty

My uncle tells the story about 2 1965 corvettes he once owned. They were his pride and joy. Then one day they caught fire. He never said why but when the firemen showed up to put them out, one remarked, “Boy, they sure burn pretty.”

It is a wonder my uncle didn’t go to jail for murder.

I was told that story before I was a teen and it has stuck with me. When I lit the candle my son gave me for my birthday, I noticed the striations of color the once all-blue candle made.

And sure enough, in the back of my head, I thought, Boy, that sure burns pretty.

Until next time.

Childhood Habits

It’s my mom’s fault. I can say that because she reads this blog and will take me to task for ratting on her.

When I was in high school, I was a straight-A student. Shocking, I know. But as I reward for such behavior, she would ask if I wanted to stay home that day and clean the house. Apparently ditching was acceptable if there was housework involved.

Being the great student that I was, naturally, I said yes.

After a morning cleaning, my mom always treated me to lunch at Taco Bell. Enchiritos were always my go-to food. Back then they usually came with lettuce and tomatoes in addition to the olives. Yum.

As an adult, ditching is now called a sick or vacation day. Wednesday was a vacation day. I couldn’t believe the overwhelming urge I had to clean the house because I was off. Thank God I was saved by books. I was, able with effort and not a little guilt, to read until the feeling mostly passed.

Cleaning the house can wait until the weekend and its regularly scheduled time:D.

Until next time.

A Little Brave

We have 3 cats that are a mixture of cat and chicken. You know what I mean. The cats creep over, settle down, then any movement or sound startles them and they take off running.

Gus-Gus is constantly on the alert of threats. And usually runs and hides as soon as there’s a strange sound.

There is one noticeable exception to this rule. It is the brush.

Gus-Gus loves to be brushed. He even rolls over so his belly can be brushed. He hugs the brush if you try and stop before he’s ready.

And when the dog that often charges Gus-Gus is getting brushed, Gus-Gus sits next to me waiting his turn. If his turn doesn’t come as soon as he deems acceptable, he grabs my hand and meows. This is the dog’s signal to leave, as the dog does not like to be brushed.

It might be a tag team effort to keep the brushing where it is wanted:D

Until next time.

Happy July 4th

Yes, I’m a little early, but tomorrow is a holiday here in the US. Tomorrow, we’ll be celebrating our independence from tyranny and the irony of that statement. So where ever you are, I hope you celebrate every day, even if you celebrate just that first-morning cup of coffee or tea.

I just love that meme.

Until next time.

What are you reading?

It’s a new month, which means new books to read.

This month, my nonfiction choice is Hospital Ships and Ambulance Trains. This book focuses on transporting wounded BEF during the first world war from the front to Blighty.

The second book is another cozy mystery. This one set in Maine and features a former Scottish dancer.

So what is on your reading list this month?

A Few Minutes More

Did you ever wake up and look at the alarm clock without an alarm ringing? I believe there is a little accountant in my head that says ‘oh, twenty minutes more. Power nap time.’

That little voice remains silent when there are less than five minutes.

And so I close my eyes and start drifting off only to be rudely awakened by the obnoxious alarm. Then I awake feeling cheated, like those four minutes were the best sleep ever and now they’re gone. Not even a power nap.

Ah well. I might be a wee bit cranky because I have hours to go before the weekend officially kicks off.

Until next time.
