Pre-Release: These Divided States: High Price to Pay

I’m very happy to give everyone a sneak peek of my latest book. It’s a thriller murder mystery and it’s 75% off until release week. Check it out below:

High-Price-to-Pay-Generic

In 2037 America, all drugs are legal for recreational use. But the price of getting high costs more than money. Users must give up some constitutional freedoms, including the right to live.

They framed the wrong woman

Jane Doe deals drugs. Born an outcast and one of the throwaway poor, she’s hated by her clients and the zealots who liken her to the serpent in Eden. When a high profile murder victim is linked to her shop, she knows her days are numbered.

Agent Callum French joined the Drugs Oversight Agency to avenge his sister’s death at the hands of an addict. His first assignment—kill the dealer responsible for the death of a powerful Senator’s daughter.

No one counted on Jane having her all Constitutional rights.

Now Callum must investigate the murder. Each lead uncovers the black heart of corruption and media fear-mongering that turns good people into violent mobs. Will discovering the real killer ignite a territory war that spills blood in the streets or expose the rotten roots of power that threaten to topple American democracy?

Warning: this book contains graphic violence, vulgar language, and situations sure to offend nearly everyone.

The Mystery

Recently, the hubbinator and I decided we wanted a change. Okay, it was me. After nearly 25 years with the same dishes, I wanted something new.  Not new-new, but new to me new.

So we went down to our local Goodwill thrift store and found a set of dishes that we both liked. Then another set of dishes that we both liked. And decided to get both sets. Obviously, not all pieces in the sets were there but we had enough for 12-15 place settings, so we were good.

Or at least I thought we were.

I noticed this last weekend that a quarter of the big plates were missing. Not in the fridge. Not in anyone’s rooms. Just gone. Poof!

So now, I’ll be trying to figure out which alternate dimension our dinner plate disappeared to. Very weird.

Has anyone else had something odd (other than socks) just disappear? Did it come back or is it gone for good?

Until next time.

Which way did it go?

Have you ever done a computer update and things just… you know, disappeared?

Yeah, well, that. That happened. The weird thing was the hubbinator didn’t say anything when he noticed it while working on the Mac yesterday. Didn’t even peep about not having access to email.

I didn’t notice because I work predominantly off my iPad.

So imagine my surprise when I log on today and nothing comes up. And I’ll be darned if I can remember passwords to the 10 different sites I scroll through every morning. Isn’t that why fingerprint ID and a keychain exist.

Arg. Thankfully, it was an easy fix and I can actually write this blog.

Life is full of such little adventures. I think I’ll take a nap:D

Until next time!

Time on my hands

I was one of the fortunate few who had President’s Day off.

After spending a very long time collecting all of my tax items and dropping them off at the accountants, I decided to spend the rest of the rainy afternoon watching horror movies on Prime and making bracelets. (Yeah, I’m not rich. I am a writer which makes my taxes give me a headache and the money I spend on having someone else handle the tax stuff allows the hubbinator to live much longer. LOL)

These are strands from JesseJamesBeads.com that I strung together to make the bracelets.

Now, it’s back to work.

Until next time!

Sometimes The STARS Align

The hubbinator and I were driving home from the store yesterday and I saw he was getting agitated.

When I asked why, he replied there was a cop car behind us, no doubt running our plates. Now, the hubbinator is a drug dealer in south Phoenix, but he ships out legal drugs to stores and doesn’t do deals in back alleys or swanky parties.

Either way, no one likes a cop car behind them and everyone in our vicinity decided to actually travel the speed limit. Shocking!

So the hubbinator shifted to another lane, so the cop car could pass.

And then I saw it, and I nearly busted a gut laughing so hard. When I finally got around to explaining what the ‘cop’ car was, the hubbinator smile and actually went a little faster so I could take this picture:

Truth be told, I wanted to follow it and maybe I could meet Alice. Then again, the license plate told me I might encounter more than zombies.

Until next time!

I’m a wimp

While most of the country is socked in with winter storms, I am dreading going to the grocery store.

It’s true.

Not because of people. Okay, not only because of people but mostly because of that wind shower at the door.

I know I have thin blood. I grew up in the Valley of the Sun and have adapted to 115+ (F) weather. I function pretty well in hot temperatures.

I want to hibernate in cold weather.

Cold for Arizona, that is. Which makes it devilishly hard to go to a store and get hit by a blast of freezing air. I know I pretty much make the same faces as buddy the elf in this scene:

And the refrigerator section at Costco is even worse. See, I told you I was a wimp:D

Until next time!

Hip-Hip-Hooray!

I finished! It took me a lot longer than I thought. Months longer than I’d planned. But finally, I finished the rough draft of my book.

Now, it is the edits, edits, and more edits.

Plus proofing.

But there’s also some fun stuff, like the cover.

Either way, it is quite satisfying to finish a book, especially one that took so long to write and is 500 manuscript pages long.

But you’ll hear more on the book later. Right now, I need a nap:D

Until next time.

Thank you

I just wanted to say thank you to all who came out over the weekend at the Chocolate Affair. Saturday was cold and windy, but Sunday was just beautiful weather.

During the lulls, I was able to visit with the authors and dodge a few bees. It’s good to be in a community that supports each other and shares such an amazing amount of creativity.

For those who stopped by to make a purchase, thank you for supporting us.

For those who don’t read that kind of smut, I hope you find smut to read.

For those who only read newspapers and magazines, I think you are very brave to read such true crime horror stories.

For those who only look at pictures, don’t disrespect comics and graphic novels (I won’t talk about the other kind).

And lastly, for those who sailed by without making eye contact and ignoring the bribery of free pens and chocolate, you were probably smart. Some of our characters bite. And so do some authors. Bwahaha.

Until next time

Why have you betrayed me?

I’ve been in a relationship with my body for all my life. Shocking, I know. But I’m sure most humans have the same story, although the length may vary.

Either way, it is perfectly normal to have certain expectations in the relationship, even, dare I say it to take said past performance for granted.

Until it doesn’t.

I’ve been walking for quite a few decades now, so I thought just adding a few steps here and there wouldn’t be a big deal. Right? I walk every day, the dog makes sure it happens twice a day. So stepping up as it were shouldn’t be a big deal.

Apparently, I was wrong.

On Friday, I nearly tumbled down a flight of stairs when my knee buckled. Did I heed such a warning sign? Nope. I went for a walk (shortened) after dinner then while climbing into a car twisted my knee.

Let’s just say, I didn’t walk much on Saturday. I actually used our office chair to get around, cuz wheels.  Sunday was a little better, but I’ve been limping around and there’s still the pain. Oy, the pain.

After doing a bit of research, I realized I was out of shape, sure, that I had added too many steps too quickly (meh), but mostly it was the shoes. I bought a new pair without adequate support and let’s say the knee pain started long before the stair incident.

At least, that’s my story and the shoes aren’t denying it:D

Until next time.
