Collections, Part 3

And then there are the items that we deliberately collect. I’m not sad to say that I have many such collections, mostly related to crafts like scrapbooking, jewelry making, and quilting.

There’s my book collection which now spans 3 rooms and causes me to restore my kindle to factory settings because of low memory every few months.

But two collections are in the beginning phases.

The first is my tea collection, which my family took great pains to make fun of over Christmas. I love tea and didn’t really get much variety from the local grocery market so I went online to purchase from a variety of vendors with seasonal blends. Yum.

The second is my minion collection. It doesn’t come close to my sisters but I did finally achieve that holy grail of having a purple minion.

Of course, it doesn’t end there. The next item on my list is a lipstick taser.

Because the one thing I’ve learned about collections is that they’re always growing.

Until next time:D

Collections, Part 2

I have another collection going. One, I’m thinking I’m not alone in. It’s emails.

I save them.

Not all of them. I’m not that far gone, but one to five a day, which really adds up. I need to get better at culling the masses but what if I need the information in that email.

I used to print out the ones I wanted to review later. I never reviewed them later but got a lot of scrap paper.

Then I sorted them into folders. Which I didn’t look at.

It is a problem and I’m working on it and came up with a new system. If I delete 5 old emails, I can keep 5 new emails. Right? Hmm.

That’s definitely a work in progress:D

Until next time.

Collections

I don’t know about you, but I seem to be collecting things subconsciously.

The first thing was napkins. I, naturally, blame my children for this. You see, when you have small and medium-sized children there is always a need for extra napkins.

Always.

As it has become increasingly just the hubbinator and I, I have managed to limit the number of napkins to two each. Yet, he doesn’t always use his share and I can manage with just one, so now I have 2-3 extras.

Usually, I stuff them in the side pocket of my purse. Where I have been thankful to have them when in a public stall, there has been an absence of toilet paper. Hubbinator tucks them into the center compartment for runny nose weather.

But in my desire to use less, I’ve been mindful of my napkin collecting. So, perhaps, in future, I will opt out of any napkins and just use the cloth ones I have at home when we order takeout.

Life is a work in progress.

Until next time.

The scariest words

Yesterday, I read the scariest words I have read in a long time. It said: Your iPad has been disabled. Try again in 15 minutes.

What?

Apparently, my iPad didn’t like its new carrying case and thought some stranger was trying to hack into it so it locked down.

The easiest way around the problem was to restart and connect to iTunes. Except, I was at work. No Mac or iTunes in sight.

I think I broke out into a cold sweat when I realized I might actually have to be at work all day and not have any music.

Thankfully, I plugged in my iPad, waited the 15 minutes, and the screen came up as normal and I could enter my passcode.

Whew! Now I have to repack my case so my iPad stops feeling molested on the way to work:D

Until next time!

Here we go again

A new year is here. Two days into it and I’m sure I’ve already decided not to do the things I planned to do yesterday.

Why?

Because, I’m comfortable. My habits fit me even if my pants are now a little too tight.:D

Ah, well, I think I need to wrap my head around the fact that shit happens. Mostly when you’re making plans. Nothing like spending New Years Eve in Urgent Care then the ER.

Not for me.

For my youngest who was in a car accident. Other than a mild concussion, she’s fine.

My voice is mostly back but try having a conversation with a doctor when you can’t speak above a whisper. Trust me, those commercials were wrong. Whispering doesn’t get someone’s attention. It gets you ignored.

Ah well.

I’ve decided that I’m going to own 2019, not it own me. Things will happen. I’ll adapt. I may have set my sites on some things that are a little pie in the sky (like 4 books this year), but I’m going to follow Kris Kringle’s advice and put one foot in front of the other.

Of course, I’m not gonna change from bad to good (let’s not get carried away), but I will do what I set out to do or come real close by December 2019.

And I hope you do the same.

Until next time!

Well that didn’t go as planned

2018 is nearly gone and well, let’s just say most of what I wanted to do I didn’t.

I supposed I learned a lesson in flexibility, but I didn’t want to learn it so there’s that.

I did manage to get one book written and it might be published in 2019, depending on my publisher.

I am almost finished with another book, a new one in a new series, but then I caught some bug and lost my voice for 3 days. Which kinda reduced the whole dictation of my book out the window.

Still, I’m persevering and I will survive, er, succeed.

And so, as I go to take some more cold medicine and a hot shower, I will end the year with a heartfelt see ya! and our traditional dinner of Chinese food.

Until next year!

Making a List

As the time to the holidays grows small, the number of things I have to do expands exponentially.

To keep track of everything, I thought about making a list.

Yes, I know. Lists are bad for the memory.

But what if you already have a bad memory? Ha, didn’t think of that, did you?

Anyway, today I decided to make a list. After I was done writing down I had to do today, I looked it over.

Then turned it over to see those items.

Then squinted and tried to decipher what I’d written in the margins.

Then threw it away, because, you know, lists are bad for the memory:D

Until next time.

I might be part cat

It hit me the other day. I might be part cat.

You see, I ordered a Fitbit in the mail. Yes, it is to track the steps I walk and to remind me to stand every hour, but it is to monitor when my heart is racing or slowing down to less than 50 beats per minute. Which it does because I’m a mutant.

But I digress.

What caused my heart to race legitimately was that I had to destroy the packaging to get at the Fitbit. I hate destroying the boxes of electronics, in fact, I seem to have become a bit of a hoarder where they are involved.

Apparently, I’m old enough to remember when electronics weren’t always the most reliable and sometimes they had to be returned within their original packaging.

Fun times. Not!

Thankfully, I don’t quite crawl inside a box to sit down. Let’s face it, those boxes big enough to accommodate me have to be cut open to get the appliances out. Although, there is this one box from amazon…. Um, gotta go, to, uh, work, yeah. work. Pay no attention to me or the box:D

Until next time!

Where did they come from

I was at Sprouts the other day when I came across Jordan almonds in Christmas colors.

IMG_1238

Which got me curious. Where did this tradition come from and why is it usually associated with weddings?

Apparently, the hard sugar-coated almonds date back to the introduction of sugarcane to Europe. Before that, there was fruit or honeyed covered almonds that are recorded back to the ancient Roman period.

And still they were associated with weddings. Apparently, to remind the bride and groom of the good and bad times ahead (sweet and bitter).

They were also eaten in odd numbers to symbolized the equal bond between husband, wife, and their children (in 3s) or when in 5s wishing the couple— Health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life.

Until next time
