A Writer is a Writer, Unless There’s a Course

I attended a workshop a few months ago and asked the expert on how to make money as an author. I was told to stop writing and start teaching.

I think my brain got whiplash from such talk.

Teachers don’t make much money. Then it clicked. Self-pubbing is the new gold rush, and those who are getting rich aren’t doing so publishing books, but showing others how to do it. Much like the storekeepers who sold shovels, gold pans, and supplies to the miners got rich.

I am not a people person. That might be why I kill so many of them off in my books. So why would I want to spend time teaching others to write?

I would rather be writing, purging those voices in my head and traveling to places currently out of reach. But I know many authors jumping on the course bandwagon. I just won’t be one of them.

Until next time.
