Valentine’s Day Cards

The last weekend I spent creating Valentine’s Day cards for family and friends.

Working on each one, I realized I need to acquire new card making skills. But time was short, and the post office was overwhelmed and slow delivering mail. I decided to wait a bit before expanding my repertoire.

Here are the cards that I made. Finding the stamp that said Happy Valentine’s Day was the hardest.

And I am not going to talk about trying a stencil.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Creative Roots

I sometimes wonder why I am not as creative as I used to be. Time, I know, plays a big constraint. After all, spending hours at work, then coming home to the business of living, doesn’t leave much time for anything else.

Then again, I don’t think it is time at all. I do spend 2 hours a night watching Netflix, Acorn, Amazon, PBS, and Hulu.

Perhaps, it is because I can just purchase an item for less than I can make it. After all, if you have the discretionary cash why not save time and energy and buy something ready to go?

Or maybe that’s not it at all.

Maybe creativity is like a muscle–you use it or the talent begins to atrophy. Problem is my talent for procrastination may be larger than my drive for creativity.

Either way, I think it’s time I spent more effort on being creative. Just not at work. I don’t fancy going to jail:D

Until next time, stay healthy.

February’s Reading List

I am finally starting to read my son’s Christmas present to me. It is a scifi with a murderbot. Brings a tear to my eye to think about how well he knows me.

I finished reading, The Declaration of Independence and have now started on 6 Degrees.

What’s on your reading list this month?

Stay healthy.

Morning Stack

I am the kind of person who will put off tonight what I can do tomorrow morning.

Alas, this means not only does my stack of things to do before I go to work get larger, I also end up being a little later out the door.

Now, that I have made the observation, know that I don’t plan to do anything about it. It is just something I have to be aware of.

And maybe not pile so much on, just add one of two little things.

Until next time, stay healthy.

No Work Goes Unpunished

I thought this would be the year that i would finally finish my daughter’s quilt. I even pulled out my sewing machine to speed along the process.

Having watched several YouTube videos, I knew I could use a walking foot to stitch the front to back and sandwich in the middle.

Alas, things went horribly awry and the backing fabric twisted and bunched resulting in a very messy quilt.

And so I spent the last weekend unpicking all the work I had done with the machine. Worse, I even tore a bit of the backing and unpicked my hand quilting on the top. Grr.

The hubbinator, bless him, asked if we should buy a proper machine to quilt for me. A proper machine costs at least 1500USD. I don’t think so, not with the time I spend quilting at the moment.

I looked at cheaper quilting frames and decided I was too cheap for those, too. Instead, I will try tying a quilt without a frame. I hope it makes the process a little more forgiving. I will also be patching the back and restitching the quilting as I go.

Wish me luck.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Friday Fun Fact

Sometimes you don’t wanna, so you don’t.

Other times you gotta, so you do.

Baby, it’s cold outside

I’m loving our cold, wet weather. And what goes better with cold, wet weather than soul food, specifically thick hearty soups and stews.

Problem is the hubbinator hates soups and stews.

Apparently, they are not real food. I get it. He walks 20 miles a day at work. He needs something substantial to keep him going.

But, I wanted soup. So on the weekend, I made split pea soup and grilled cheese sandwiches on pumpernickel bread for lunch. There was a squinty-eyed look from him but he ate it.

Now, I am finishing off the leftovers for lunch.

Yesterday, I decided to make oxtail soup (stew). I had seen oxtails in the store the first time in a long time around Christmas and had been craving the soup. Naturally they didn’t have them then. But last weekend, I found them when I was looking for ham hocks for the split pea soup.

So I bought them, then with my Dad’s help found his recipe for oxtail stew which I loved as a child. My mother warned me not to expect it to taste the same. It took 4 and a half hours to make it on the stove.

And it was delicious.

The hubbinator even liked the chunks of tomatoes and carrots, but didn’t really appreciate sucking the tender meat off the bone. That’s the best part. And I have leftovers, which I offered to split with my dad. After all, more rain is coming on Friday.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Overwhelmed

I get a lot of emails. Usually I delete them after a quick scan, but this time I read on. Apparently, one reason people feel overwhelmed isn’t because they have too much to do but because they don’t finish anything.

Aside from the obvious things that are wrong with that statement, I do sense a grain of truth in it.

So, I think I will do a little experiment and start finishing so of the endless things on my to do list.

I mean the worst that can happen is stuff gets done.

Until next time, stay healthy.
