Friday Fun Fact

The life of a bruise:

Deny the existence of the bruise: Is that a bruise?

Seek evidence: Touch the bruise. An ouch confirms that the bruise is real.

Question the bruise: How did that happen?

Repeat as needed for every discovery.

Peas and Carrots

I saw a spread in a magazine the other day. One that contained all the variety of vegetables and fruits available from a shop in New York. The food came from all over the world and included over 50 different items. Some I hadn’t seen before let alone knew what they were.

Did you ever notice how many different kinds of veggies you eat in a week?

Peas, corn and broccoli are our go-to staples in our freezer. There’s salads with romaine and red/green lettuces plus the occasional spinach. Complementing the salad are tomatoes, radishes, carrots, celery and onions (red or green).

Fruits are pineapples, oranges, strawberries and the odd banana or apple.

So much to chose from and yet I deliberately limit my choices.

Time to try something new. Next time I go to the grocery store, I select something new then find a new recipe to make it with.

A win-win.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Getting Carded

I spent a lovely Sunday morning watering the plants, pulling dead grass and weeds, and making cards. I didn’t use any stamps but once the glue dries, I will stamp the interior to go with the reason behind the card.

This time, I decided to make at least a dozen to see me through the next month or so. Thankfully, I can save those I don’t use for next year.

Here is my stash to see me through the winter:

Tomorrow, I will work on creating some Valentines.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Friday Fun Fact

I wish I could read tea leaves so I would know what kind of day I was about to have after my morning cuppa.

Organizing

Or as I have started calling it: Cat proofing.

This is probably not a real thing as cats are clever and will eventually find their way into everything.

But it is a start.

And speaking of starts, it all came about because one Zim-Zilla jumped to a high shelf on our entertainment unit. There followed a clatter and a thud then a sound of a cloudburst as hundreds of beads rained down onto the wooden floor.

My son spent time vacuuming the mess up only to happen again.

And so, I spent time this last weekend organizing.

Now the cat is biding his time, waiting until no one can see him as he tries to break into this new puzzle.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Writing but not producing

Since I’ve taken on a new job, I have been writing but not producing books.

It’s really hard to stick to facts when you know the only plot twists are more disruptions in your time to complete a task. I would like to think I can focus on one task, but that is hard to do when the place is burning down around you.

Sometimes, things are urgent and need to be addressed immediately.

The problem is that there is always something urgent.

And sometimes it is between the people who report to you.

Ah well, I love a challenge.

I just wished I was able to spend more time killing folks or introducing the plot twists. On paper of course. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Until next time, stay healthy.

People look at you funny if you are still playing Christmas carols.

Reading Challenge

I visited Goodreads last weekend and was greeted with a challenge. How many books did I plan to read in 2021?

Now, I know that amazon and Goodreads are hand in glove and whenever I open a book on my kindle, Goodreads shares it with the world. There’s even a little bit of shaming when a book stays around for too long.

But I digress.

I met Goodreads’ challenge with a solid 24.

After all, I normally ready 2 books a month.

What Goodreads doesn’t know is that one read is usually a print book. So now, I have to tell on myself so I can meet the goal.

This month’s reads are:

And

Until next time. Stay healthy.

Angel is Down

There was a question posed on one of my social media groups: When do you take down your Christmas decorations?

Normally, we take our stuff down on the weekend following January 6th, or as Catholics call it Epiphany. Most folks know of it as the 12 days of Christmas when the wise men/3 kings arrived and acknowledged Jesus as God made human.

Sadly, this year is not like most years. Our new kitten Zim-zilla has been killing my Christmas decorations in scenes reminiscent of a horror movie-one at a time.

And worse still, our Christmas tree didn’t make it 3 weeks, but wilted and dropped handfuls of needles before Christmas. So, the tree joined a small forest of others at a city park and will soon be wood chips and mulch. It’s a circle of life thing.

My surviving decorations and house lights will remain up until next weekend. As the old Johnny Mathis song goes, I need a little Christmas now.

Until next time, stay healthy.
