Time at the Movies

One of my favorite holiday traditions is to raid our DVD and BluRay collection and comb through the movies to find just the right ones to set the mood for the holidays.

We always start off with Christmas Vacation. I just love the two tree cutting scenes. I would love to have a chainsaw to fix the newel post.

This year, I had to purchase another copy of  Christmas in Connecticut since I couldn’t find the one I received last year.  I’ve already watched Holiday and Prep and Landing (plus the naughty list). Then I realized to my horror that I didn’t have Santa Claus is Coming to Town. What is Christmas without a Bumble?

Aside from Elf, Frosty, Rudolph and The Santa Clause (I and II), there’s the Grinch, the Ref and Prancer.

Then my hubby and I decided to expand our stash. We added Bad Santa and Mixed Nuts.

Yes, we are attracted to dysfunctional family comedies. I don’t know why;)

For some reason we steer clear of the old stand-bys of Christmas Carol, Miracle on 34th Street, and It’s a Wonderful Life.

have any of you  added unconventional favorites to the old classics.

  1. Christmas vacation, is that Chevy Chase? I love his films! Bad Santa is a fave here, alongside Nightmare before Christmas and The Grinch. Ooh, and don’t forget Muppet Christmas Carol!

    • Yes, it’s the Chevy Chase one. I love that movie.
We watch the animated Grinch Movie, although we do own the Jim Carrey version. I haven’t watched the Muppet’s Christmas Carol for ages. But I do have a Tim Burton marathon at Halloween with the Nightmare before Christmas.
