The older I get

The younger I behave.

I now have a favorite mug and plate. What’s more, I get annoyed when someone else uses them.

Seriously, I may turn into a toddler and start biting. LOL

Until next time, stay healthy.

And stay away from my favorite mug and plate.

Have you heard…

I was watching something and they kept mentioning the term ASRM. ASRM stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. Basically, it’s a pleasant sensation you experience while hearing a soft voice, whispering, or brushing.

I think of it as white noise.

Now, I know certain songs have the ability to amplify my creativity, so I tend to have playlists for certain books.

But, listening to the sound of the ocean just makes me need to pee.

So…I was a little skeptical and then I found this series of youtube videos by Early American. It is mostly cooking during America’s frontier time with very little speaking. It is in a word–relaxing.

Here’s one:

Either way, I’ve found a great way to destress at the end of the day. And no way, would I trade my appliances for such labor intensive cooking everyday.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Phoenix Fan Fusion 2022

Here are some of the fantastic cos-players that I managed to get pictures of while signing my books.

Fact or Fiction

Picture this—Phoenix, 2022

A little known author purchased a table at a popular convention to peddle her books. Fans oohed and aahed about one series that takes place after an influenza pandemic.

When was it written?

Ten years ago. Impressing most. And actually selling a few.

There were many characters all around—including Death. After all, if you were one of the horsemen and wanted to hang with the humans before their expiration date, why not go where you could be yourself and everyone would think you had a great cos-play outfit.

Death—came in many ages and genders. Sometimes he/she wore the traditional robe and carried a scythe. Other times, his/her wings were made of feathers or gauze.

We chatted a few times.

I had not expected his buddy Pestilence. He wore a middle aged human suit and stopped to joke about how we were at a COVID superspreader event and both of us would get it as we, and most everyone else, weren’t wearing a mask. With 2 hours, left in the con, I appreciated the dark sense of humor

And then Monday came, and I started to feel sick. Sure enough, a 15 minute home test confirmed COVID in 3 minutes (I’ve always been an overachiever).

A PCR test the next day confirmed it officially. In a nod to Pestilence, I passed it along to my family.

But, I’m better now, and they’re on the mend. And, yes, I would go again. It was fun.

So, don’t be like me. Stay healthy.

Win some; lose some

I have been wearing glasses since I was 16.

It wasn’t a strong prescription, but it was a necessary correction to my vision. As I was fortunate enough to get older, my eyes became a little worse and glasses for distance was necessary.

And then someone rewrote the rules.

Now I need glasses to read. That sucks.

But there was a trade off.

Now, I don’t need glasses for distance. My vision is 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 in the other. In other words, my doctor told me to throw my glasses away. I did get a pair for distance though. They are supposed to help me see at night.

Seems like a win for me.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Little Things Matter

It’s kind of funny and sad how often we overlook the importance of little victories in the pursuit of large dreams. Positive feedback is powerful and motivating.

One work associate had spent four hours on a project, believing she was making progress, only to find out that everything she had done amounted to naught toward the goal.

Yes, she knew the goal, but she had been so excited to be able to contribute that she hadn’t been as careful as she should have been and had misidentified her data.

Been there; done that.

Game makers are masters are understanding this human need for positive feedback. Why do you think the first levels are so easy? Sadly, drug dealers exploit the same principle.

As a writer this principle is fundamental to engaging the reader. After all, why couldn’t the world end when the hero is having a good hair day?

Until next time, stay healthy.

Friday Fun Fact

Sometimes when you misspell a word, it looks better than the actual correctly spelled word.
