When it Rains, It Grows

We were blessed with rain for 5 beautiful days. From a light mist kissing your face to a proper downpour and rivers in the gutters.

Then the sun came out and chased the clouds away.

Two days later, we got this:

This is nothing compared to the Serengeti that is currently devouring half the planting beds in the backyard. And the wildlife there will eat you alive, too. It’s ants. Ants! I hate them

And yet, I must sally forth and try to tame the wild growth. I just love fall.

What are you reading? Early

It’s weird. It’s September 30th and I’ve finished reading the books I started at the beginning of the month.

I didn’t expect that to happen.

Seriously, one was really good and the other was not. It was so underwhelming I am not having to consider buying a series without reading the first book in the series. (I have bargain hunting issues)

Ah, well, so now I have two new books to read, and this time I am not making the mistake of making them both ebooks.

Without further ado, my books for October are:

How the States Got their Shapes (which, yes, I purchased because of the series)

And Four Last First Dates. Yes, I have switched from cozy mysteries back to romance.

Beginning Again

Well, I’m doing it again. Working on quilting my daughter’s quilt by hand. I think I’ve started the project about 3 times now over several years.

Too many years.

But this year, I vow to finish the quilt.

And I also vowed not to hand quilt anymore. Next time, I’m sending the sucker out for marching quilting.

Fingers crossed I finish it before New Year’s 2025.

This is Halloween

I may not be able to decorate my house for the holiday, but that didn’t stop me from other creative endeavors. I originally planned to practice wire wrapping and seed bead earring, my wire was too fat for the tiny holes in the seed beads.

So I made these:

Tired

It seems that whenever we have to move something heavy and need a dolly or a landscaping cart, the wheels of the item are flat. And not just, in need of air kind, but rotted, too.

I went online to see if I could find a part number for a replacement wheel and ended up with 3 different sizes of tires that could fit my cart. Quick work with a measuring tape settled the matter. Then the hubbinator convinced me that we’d be better off visiting Harbor Freight then the DIY store. We did a little daydreaming about other things with wheels that could go flat before purchasing 2 new wheels.

During checkout, we found this dish.

It’s magnetic and holds that stupid screws that must always be removed then put back but always require the addition of Tupperware to hold them until needed. The base of the dish is magnetic too, so who knows, maybe we won’t knock all the pieces to the floor just as we need them. Here’s hoping.

Mental Barriers

It’s weird. I’ll binge-watch a series on Netflix or Prime and not even think twice about it.

But then I see a Ken Burns series where each episode is nearly 2 hours long and my brain balks. Nope. We don’t have time for that. We have things to do.

Yeah, right.

I know it is the chunk of time listed on the description. My brain seems to be confused. In this digital age and with my PBS passport, I can pause and watch at my convenience, just like Prime and Netflix.

But the hubbinator really wanted to watch Ken Burns’s new Country Music series. Which is odd because I like country music; he doesn’t.

Alas, I gave in and we started. Just like everything else Ken Burns does, it is amazing. We do only watch it in pieces, usually an hour at a time. And I look at how much farther we have to go like Noah lining up animals for the ark. That’s two. And that’s two. And that’s two. etc. I will get through it. Unfortunately, there’s a deadline in early October and my mental barrier about the time isn’t coming down anytime soon. But I shall triumph.

White Christmas Trees

My mother started it. I showed her the Christmas tree earrings I planned to make everyone for the holidays. They were green.

She said she wanted white.

Weird, but that’s my mom.

So I went back to the bead store and purchased enough crystals to make the white trees. Then I made the mistake of asking my siblings which color they would prefer. 3 out of 4 said white. Obviously, they take after our mother.

When I showed everyone the finished earrings I spent last week making, well, let’s just say the house is still divided.
