Friday Fun Fact

Those of you who push the crumbs off the countertop and into your palm before disposing of them in the sink or garbage are my kind of people.

Moving back

Most of us have heard of moving on, but how many have heard of moving back? No, I’m not talking about returning to your parents home after a devastating life event.

I’m talking about moving back into rooms that have had new flooring and a little painting done.

I’m sure the cats will miss the wonderland that is the living room where 3 rooms worth of stuff has been stored for the last month. But it will be nice not to be so crowded at the computer.

So here are the rooms:

Now that the paint has dried and the outlets have been replaced and the old phone jacks have been covered I can start setting up the rooms for holiday guests.

Until next time, stay healthy.

NaNoWriMo

Today marks the beginning of November and the start of National Novel Writing Month (FMI). Basically, many authors challenge themselves and others to write a 50K novel during the month of November. I thought long and hard about joining in to see if I could convince myself to get back into the habit of writing and the answer was:

No.

The shortness of the answer doesn’t fully represent that mental wrestling that took place. In the end, I just didn’t want the stress added to the lot I’m already dealing with.

I will, however, challenge myself to write a little every day on my novel. Even a line or two is better than nothing. And I think I can do that.

Until next time, stay healthy.

A Day to Rest

I am on vacation from work, yet every day I start the day with a list of things to do.

So today I am rebelling and will be relaxing and watching movies and reading.

No errands.

No sorting, organizing, etc.

No scrubbing, painting, or prepping for painting.

Okay, so there will be dishes to wash and dinner to prepare.

And I will be making the final push to sew the binding to my youngest’s new quilt but I’m not going to do much of anything else.

The hard part will be not to feel guilty about it.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Fair Food

After working for 3 weekends straight, we decided a little break was in order and headed toward the State Fair. There weren’t as many people there as in past years and the exhibits and food were a little thin, but we always enjoy ourselves.

Our normal starting point was the fine art exhibits inside the coliseum. Lots of paintings, sculptures, and photos. Of course, I have a fondness for all the quilts and there was an awesome display of them–including several Halloween quilts that I wanted to take home.

The 4-H displays were awesome and the school artwork was inspiring (and humbling since some of those 1st graders are better artists than I am).

The food displays made me wish they still sold recipe books of the winners.

And speaking of food, we did have big hopes for the fried food offerings.

And started with our usual fried bread with beans and cheese.

We then moved onto a new treat–a watermelon taco. A watermelon shell filled with pineapple soft serve ice cream and topped with a spice. It was salty and sweet and very delicious.

It was also very filling, even splitting it between the two of us, so this finished our food adventure and kept us going until dinner.

As we continued to explore the exhibitor’s booths and stopped by the farm animals and petty zoo, we noticed a theme — dinosaurs followed us everywhere and we kinda wondered if they weren’t fattening us up for a late afternoon snack.

Thankfully, we made it out alive and had a great time. Until next time, stay healthy.

Days of Destruction

It started at the beginning of the month. We began ripping out the hardwood floors we laid when we first moved into our house 18 years ago.

Of course the first thing we had to do was to empty the 3 bedrooms of all their contents. Which kinda exposed a bit of hoarding on my part regarding books, crafts, quilting, and beading. Still we perservered and filled our living room with treasures the cats have been unearthing and playing with.

Now, all we have to do is reinstall the baseboards, paint one room and touch up the others then all the rooms will be prepped for next week’s tiling.

Until next time, stay healthy.

Fall Migration

It happens in the fall, not the birds and animals shifting to find more hospitable climes, but my clothing has to be migrated.

Somewhere along the way I began to separate my clothing into cool weather clothing and hot weather clothing for the other 10 months of the year. This was not due to a latent organizing gene in my body, but rather lack of space.

So now, as I select my work clothes, I am shuffling the new fluffy Halloween socks to the top drawer and removing several pairs of anklets to the bottom drawer. Ditto the fall and summer pj bottoms.

In the closet, the short sleeved shirts rotate to the left while the empty hangers migrate to the right.

It’s all fun and games until the weather warms back up for that week or two of hot weather until the thermometer settles into cool weather time.

Until next time, stay healthy.
