Libby Strammon believed her life was on track. A young woman of the tumultuous 1960’s, she worked hard to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor so she could open a practice in the small Kansas farming community where she was raised. But when a perilous storm sweeps her back a hundred years into the past she is forced to rely on her instincts while navigating the changed world that a hundred years difference has wrought.

Kansas Volunteer, Lieutenant Matthew Dome’s magnetic attraction to the slightly odd woman who appeared out of nowhere wars with past promises made—promises he’d failed to keep. He yearns to have the fascinating spitfire by his side, but can’t let go of the past and his guilt long enough to convince himself she belongs in his life.

When circumstances send Libby and Matthew into danger, and a buried secret is revealed, Libby races against time to choose between returning to the 20th century she is familiar with or remain with Matthew who loves her but failed her once before?

Southern cops have a way with words

These are actual comments made by South Carolina Troopers that were taken off their car videos:

1. “You know, stop lights don’t come any redder than the one you just went through.”

2.  “Relax, the handcuffs are tight because they’re new. They’ll stretch after you wear them a while.”

3. “If you take your hands off the car, I’ll make your birth certificate a worthless document.” (My Favorite)

4. “If you run, you’ll only go to jail tired.”

5. “Can you run faster than 1200 feet per second?  Because that’s the speed of the bullet that’ll be chasing you.” (LOVE IT)

6. “You don’t know how fast you were going? I guess that means I can write anything I want to on the ticket,  huh?”

7. “Yes, sir, you can talk to the shift supervisor, but I don’t think it will help. Oh, did I mention that I’m the shift supervisor?”

8. “Warning! You want a warning? O.K, I’m warning you not to do that again or I’ll give you another  ticket.”

9. “The answer to this last question will determine whether you are drunk or not. Was Mickey Mouse a cat or a dog?”

10. “Fair? You want me to be fair? Listen, fair is a place where you go to ride on rides, eat cotton candy and corn dogs and step in monkey poop.”

11. “Yeah, we have a quota. Two more tickets and my wife gets a toaster oven.”

12.  “In God we trust; all others we run through NCIC.”(National Crime Information Center )

13.  “Just how big were those ‘two beers’ you say you had?”

14.  “No sir, we don’t have quotas anymore. We used to, but now we’re allowed to write as many tickets as we can.”

15. “I’m glad to hear that the Chief (of Police) is a personal friend of yours. So you know someone who can post your bail.”

AND THE WINNER IS….

16. “You didn’t think we give pretty women tickets?  You’re right, we don’t. Sign here.”

Passion’s Poison by Lexi Post

Lexi does an amazing thing. She takes literary novels uses them as the basis for her erotic novels. Check out her latest:

passionspoison_msrPassion’s Poison

Lexi Post

Beatrice Rappaccini is tired of the one-night stands that keep her alive. Tired of the illness she causes when she releases her sexual poisons into her partners. But when she meets Zach Woodman, everything changes. Desperate for what she can’t have, she puts her heart and life on the line, ignoring the anonymous letters warning her to stay away from Zach.

Zach Woodman, logger turned chainsaw artist, has the perfect life, but no one to share it with after the deaths of the women he loved. Fascinated by the sexually experienced yet naïve Bea, he promises himself he will end their hot relationship before fate takes another beautiful woman from the world.

But he discovers Bea has no idea how to have a relationship, and he is perplexed by her strange behavior, hippie mother, six fathers and her request to give him every man’s sex fantasy. It is only when he might lose her that he realizes he must make a decision that will break his heart either way.

Excerpt:

She liked his smile. He had deep lines etched around his mouth, probably because he smiled so much. How wonderful it must be to laugh as much as he did.

“Bea?”

She started, caught staring again.

“If you keep looking at me like that, you’re going to find yourself naked on those sheepskins in no time.”

She glanced at the beige softness before the now-roaring fire and shivered. She could imagine the feel of them against her naked skin.

“Come.” Zach stood beside her, his hand outstretched.

Did he want her to get undressed? A shiver of anticipation raced across her skin. She took his hand, but didn’t look at him as his warm palm heated her own.

He tipped her chin up. “We better check on dinner.”

She met his gaze as realization dawned. “Of course, it should be done by now. I hope we didn’t overcook it.”

He led her into the kitchen, but instead of releasing her hand, he boxed her in against the island counter. “Bea, you need to accept that I will not take advantage of you. However, the chances of us making love tonight are at about one hundred percent. Don’t you think?”

Her breath caught in her throat at the baldness of his statement, but she couldn’t deny it. Her body completely agreed with him and from the weakening of her limbs and the hardening of her nipples, it was ready to prove him right—immediately. Slowly, she nodded.

His smile lit his face before he bent his head to pull her into a soul-searching kiss. She wound her arms around his neck and his hard body pressed her against the counter. As their tongues entwined, she forgot to breathe.

Abruptly, he stepped away and put his hands into his front pockets, a gesture she was coming to adore. He stared at her as if he had to make a life-changing decision, but then looked away.

He strode around to the stove and turned off the oven. He didn’t glance at her. “I’m glad that’s settled. Do me a favor and pour us more wine and I’ll serve.”

The Dragon Hour by Connie Flynn

Connie is a fabulous writer who has branched out into paranormal romances. This time she’s writing about dragons. What could be better than that?

20130516-dragon-hour-500x800The Dragon Hour

A Scottish paradise lost in time is invaded by 21st century thugs. It was a robbery gone terribly wrong, ending in Luke Slade carrying his wounded cousin through a window of light. Just before the window closes, the killers chase in behind them, trapping them all in 1672.

Caryn McLaughlin rules Lochlorraine and deals daily with a terrible threat. When Luke appears she knows her worries will soon be over. She’s seen his face all her life on a tapestry hanging in her bed chambers. Luke the Dragon Slayer, none other . . . and his duty is clear. What a pity he doesn’t see it that way.

Excerpt

The alarm had sound.
Giving her boot laces a final tug, Caryn tied them, then gave one last look at the image of the man who would come to redeem her village. Color rose in her cheeks as she recalled her girlish fantasies. Sir Lucas would ride up Wizard’s Spire on a great black stallion, cut off the monster’s head, then return to lay it at her feet.
His declarations of love would cause her to swoon, and soon they’d adjourn to their marriage bed where he’d show her the delights bards sang of.
She hurried from her room and toward the stairs. At the main floor, she encountered Ian, who was ascending from the lower regions.
“Caryn,” he called. “That blasted fool Chisholm gathered his soldiers and rode off without waiting for my instructions.”
The Earl of Lochlorraine hurried toward her, his plaid in complete disarray. Tufts of his tawny hair sprouted from his head. Even now, as he skidded to a stop in front of her, he ran his fingers through the strands, creating more untidy cowlicks. But Caryn was accustomed to his lack of concern about personal appearance, and barely noticed his dishevelment. “These men have come from a future time.” He paused to rub his chin and Caryn waited patiently for him to continue. “One or more may hold the knowledge that I need.”
“The needle of your time compass rests on the future?”
“Aye. The years have reached two thousand. Can you imagine? But what excites me more is that finally we’ve lured a future-dweller into the realm. Surely they can impart wonders I have never dreamed about.”
Ian continued speculating about the knowledge so near at hand, but Caryn barely heard him over her disappointment. So this wasn’t the moment of the hero’s return, after all. Sir Lucas would come from the past, not the future.
“Caryn!”
Several seconds passed before Caryn became aware that Ian knew she wasn’t listening. With a mumbled apology, she gave back her attention.
“This knowledge must not be lost. The success of our mission depends on it. The travelers will be frightened and possibly hostile. Go. Keep Chisholm at bay.”
” ‘Tis where I was going,” Caryn said.
And she could tarry no longer. Chisholm’s rashness in battle was well known. More than one traveler had died under his sword.
A new alarm came from the tower. Three again.
“Six travelers!” Caryn exclaimed. “Never have we had so many.”
“A rare opportunity,” Ian agreed. “And I must speak to each of them.”
Caryn gathered up her skirts. “I must hurry.”
“Tell the captain that none of the travelers are to be harmed,” Ian called as Caryn turned and rushed toward the great hall. “Inform him that it is my command.”
Only with Chisholm would she need the power of Ian’s authority, but Caryn was glad enough to have it as she pushed through the heavy castle doors and dashed to the stable. She’d ride her stallion without saddle, saving time, for she feared she’d be too late.
Even as she ran, her mind returned to the dragon slayer and her moment of unseemly lust. A useless fantasy, she thought. A folly, in fact. She’d never accept a man into her bed again. They had such a tiresome way of trying to rule a woman’s life.

SciFi Romance by Vijaya Schartz

I’ve known Vijaya for a long time and love her unique twists on SciFi, plus she has cats in her books. Who wouldn’t love that?

BOREALIS IX: AKIRA’S CHOICE

By Vijaya Schartz

Sci-fi romance novella

Kindle: http://amzn.com/B00EWTQHAW

Nook: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/c/vijaya-schartz

Akira mediumBounty hunter Akira Karyudo knew something didn’t add up when she accepted her assignment. Why would the Trans Planetary Protectorate want a kidnapped orphan dead or alive?

She will get to the truth once she finds the boy, and the no good SOB who snatched him from a psychiatric hospital. With her cheetah, Freckles, a genetically enhanced feline retriever, Akira sets out to flush them out of the bowels of the BOREALIS space station. But when she finds her fugitives, the man is not what she expects.

Markku, a decorated rebel soldier, only protects his nephew from the authorities, who performed painful experiments on the boy. Stuck on Borealis, he hides the child. But how can he shield him from the horribly dangerous conditions in the lawless sublevels of the decrepit space station?

Akira faces the worst moral dilemma of her career. Law or justice, duty or love.

She can’t have it both ways.

EXCERPT:

Two thugs stalked away to follow the cheetah.

“Go after that cat and you’re dead!” The strong baritone voice came from a tall man aiming a blaster at the two hoodlums.

He stepped out of the shadows, in full paramilitary gear. His left hand held a long knife. He sidled toward Akira, circling the thugs, who started to retreat at the sight of his blaster.

“Mind your own business.” Akira didn’t appreciate unwanted help.

The man stepped closer. “These goons know nothing about civilized rules of fighting. They want your body, your hide, your cat for its meat, and your armor and weapons.”

“I know that.” Who did this man think she was? A neophyte? “There is no honor in killing defenseless creatures.”

“There is no honor in this place.” His gaze skimmed the sorry lot holding an assortment of blades and clubs, some with protruding metal spikes. “Believe me, they are far from defenseless.”

The thugs kept their distance from the blaster aimed at them, but they did not retreat.

“Still. I refuse to kill if there is another way.” None of those rejects would threaten her individually, but their number could present a challenge. As more joined the group, she counted two dozen.

The louts glanced at one another with indecision. At least, they understood the warning. She was trained and dangerous. Not to be trifled with. They widened their half circle in front of her, still hesitating, but they held their ground.

Chikusho.

In a few long steps, the stranger joined her side. From his walk and the way he held his weapons, she could tell he had military training. He didn’t look like a TPP soldier, though. Something wild lurked in his clear blue gaze. A free thinker. A bounty hunter like her? Or perhaps a rebel?

“You look like you could use some help.”

“Do I?” Unbelievable. “Why should I trust you?” She couldn’t help the derision in her voice. “For all I know, you could be their leader, luring me into a trap.”

He chuckled and shook his head. “I’m not one of them, and you are in more trouble than you know.”

“Get out of my way.” Akira clicked open the metal claws of her forearm braces

then unsheathed a titanium short sword and adopted a defensive stance. “I work

alone.”

He laughed. “And I’m telling you, this is no place for a warrior from a distant

past. Especially, one who cares about something as futile as honor.”

Friday Funny-Coffee and Testicles

Thanks to Hugh for passing this along. I got to the end and since I don’t drink coffee or have testicles, I’m trying to see if I can change my work hours:D

A guy goes into USPS to apply for a job…..

The interviewer asks him, “Are you allergic to anything?”

He replies, “Yes, caffeine. I can’t drink coffee.”

“Ok. Have you ever been in the military service?”

“Yes,” he says, “I was in Afghanistan for one tour.”

The interviewer says, “That will give you 5 extra points toward employment.” Then he asks, “Are you disabled in any way?”

The guy says, “Yes. A bomb exploded near me and I lost both my testicles.”

The interviewer grimaces and then says, “Disabled in your country’s service! Well that qualifies for extra bonus points. Okay. Looking at the regulations you have got enough points for me to hire you right now. Our normal hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. You can start tomorrow at 10:00 AM, and plan on starting at 10:00 AM every day.”

The guy is puzzled and asks, “If the work hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, why don’t you want me here until 10:00 AM?”

“This is a government job,” the interviewer says. “For the first two hours, we just stand around drinking coffee and scratching our balls. No point in you coming in for that.”

Sailing….

Soon, hubby and I will be sailing away into the sunset for a well-deserved vacation. I have a few friends who were drafted into telling you about their amazing books while I’m gone, so I hope you’ll give them a warm welcome (but no comments, I won’t be online to moderate).

And now for something completely different.

Why is it there are no bugs eating the zombies?

I mean bugs eat everything from the insulation around you electric wires to dung, why wouldn’t one chomp down on a shambling buffet? It’s not as if bugs don’t cling to people in motion. I have the misquitoe bites to prove it.

So why no swarm of flies in zombie shows?

And how do we know the zombie virus (H1Z1) isn’t a blood borne pathogen like malaria?

Anyone want to venture an answer?

Just a Typewriter

My mom sent this to me and I wanted to pass this along. It is amazingly inspiring to think what courage, determination and imagination can do.

He lived at Rose Haven Nursing home ( Roseburg , OR ) for years.

Paul Smith, the man with extraordinary talent was born on September 21, 1921, with severe cerebral palsy.

Not only had Paul beaten the odds of a life with spastic cerebral palsy, a disability that impeded his speech and mobility but also taught himself to become a master artist as well as a terrific chess player even after being devoid of a formal education as a child.  When typing, Paul  used his left hand to steady his right one.  Since he couldn’t press two keys at the same  time, he almost always locked the shift key down and made his pictures using thesymbols  at the top of the number keys.  In other words, his pictures were based on these characters …..@ # $ % ^ & * ( )_.  Across seven decades, Paul created hundreds of pictures.  He often gave the originals away.

Sometimes, but not always, he kept or received a copy for his own records.

As his mastery of the typewriter grew, he developed techniques to create shadings, colors, and textures that made his  work resemble pencil or charcoal drawings.  This great man passed away on June 25, 2009, but left behind a collection
